*Mya's camp has released a statement denying that "diva behavior" kept her from making a scheduled appearance at a club in Barbados.
Reports surfaced earlier this month that the R&B singer skipped her hosting duties at the venue because she just didn't feel like attending. But a statement released Thursday by Mya's attorney blames her no-show on the event's promoters who failed to come up with her promised payment.
"A week and a half prior to the scheduled appearance at Club NXS in St. Lawrence Gap, Mya was informed that the promoter of this event did not have the funds available to accommodate her appearance," said the statement from her attorney Paul Gardner. "Despite this, the promoters of the 'Celebrity Party' went on to include Mya on the promotional material, and to announce her appearance on the local radio station. Because of the lack of funding, Mya was no longer obligated to appear at this event.
"Furthermore, in addition to a last minute meet and greet with young students and athletes, Mya attended a dinner organized by the local radio station. Unbeknownst to her the radio station had advertised her presence as the prize for two contest winners. Mya graciously attended this dinner, even though this she was not required to do so under the contract.
"Mya would like to apologize to her fans for the confusion and disappointment caused by this situation. However, she would also like her fans to know that she takes her professional engagements very seriously, and would have attended this event had it been organized properly and if the promoter had the originally agreed upon monetary compensation available."

She’s been flying under the radar as of late, but over the weekend R&B singer Mya was spotted showing off her fabulous bikini body in Barbados.
The “Lady Marmalade” songstress looked scorching in a dark pink halter-style two-piece swimsuit as she walked along the sand and splashed in the Caribbean Sea.
But earlier in the weekend, it was all business for the Grammy Award-winner, with a scheduled appearance at the Barbados Charity Basketball weekend, held at the Hilton Hotel.
Event coordinator Craig Skilling announced, “This year we are looking to plant a seed here in Barbados because you have the facilities and the infrastructure to host a major celebrity weekend. This is where we want to get to, and when I say major celebrity I want to go ahead and have a culminating celebrity basketball game where these guys can get together and play an actual game.

Media Takeout alleges that R&B singer Mya did not attend a club event in St. Lawrence Gap (Barbados) after she was given an all-expense paid trip to there. Media Takeout claims that instead of going to the event she decided to "chill in hotel room".

It would appear that Mya is not going to be playing Velma Kelly in the Broadway production of 'Chicago'. Though Mya's team has not confirmed it, Broadway.com and other news outlets list two new people to play Velma Kelly this Spring-Summer:
Nicole Bridgewater-May 12- May 18
Nancy Lemenager-May 19-July 13
Mya, unfortunately, had to opt out due to a broken foot.

The producers of the musical CHICAGO announced that the anticipated Broadway debut of Grammy Award winner Mưa has been postponed. The multi-platinum recording artist, who was set to begin a nine-week engagement as Velma Kelly on Monday, May 12, 2008, has been sidelined with a broken foot.
